Our highly qualified subject area teachers work one-on-one with students and tailor lessons to meet their academic needs. Most are state-certified teachers, many have a Master’s degree, and a few have their Ph.D. Teachers are selected due to their extensive knowledge of the subject matter, effectiveness of teaching vs. telling, and friendly, engaging personalities. We all know that having a vast knowledge of information does not make someone a good teacher. For actual learning to take place, the teacher must be able to explain concepts in a way that students can understand and must also be able to connect with their students through interactive, engaging lessons.
Our teachers meet with their students usually once or twice a week for either 1 or 1.5 hours. During the session the teacher will help with any questions the student may have, re-teach any lessons that are not understood, help with homework, prepare for upcoming quizzes or tests, and with time permitting, teach the next few lessons in advance of the class. If our teacher introduces new topics in a one-on-one setting, it makes more sense when it is presented in the classroom setting. Our students find themselves able to participate more in class, with overall lower anxiety and higher self-confidence.
Our teachers meet with small groups once or twice a week to provide on-going academic support year round for specific courses. During the weekly lesson, the teacher will review and practice course material to help students have a stronger understanding of the concepts and be better prepared for their tests, as well as any end-of-course exams. Students should form their own study groups, choosing students who are in the same course, have the same teacher, and are at a similar academic level. Once you have a group, please contact us to find out the available openings for that course.
Many students see one of our study skills teachers once a week to help keep up with all of their classes. The teachers use the student's current curriculum, notebooks, and textbooks to work on executive functioning skills such as:
-organization
-listening and note-taking skills
-effective academic reading
-test-taking strategies
-time-management (planning & pacing long and short term assignments)
-how to study for each subject and each type of assessment
Many students find themselves overwhelmed and unable to manage both their academics and extra-curricular activities. Our study skills teachers not only offer weekly support and help plan for the upcoming week, but also teach students how to become self-sufficient learners.
PERSONALIZED PREP: Our highly experienced test prep teachers will design a custom preparation plan based on your child's needs and goals. Our sessions do not consist of just doing practice tests like many other companies. Our test prep experts will not only teach your child the necessary academic skills, but just as important, they’ll teach the test-taking and time-management strategies that will raise your child’s confidence and scores.
YOU DECIDE THE PROGRAM LENGTH: Some students do just a few hours, most do the recommended 3-4 months of prep, and some come back with results after taking the test to continue working on increasing their scores. Math sessions can be 1 hour, 1.5 hours, or 2 hours in length, but English sessions must be a minimum of 1.5 hours to allow ample time for the reading passages. The maximum length of the sessions and whether they meet once or twice a week for each subject is up to you. You can decide what works best for your child.
LET US HELP YOU: We understand how important test scores can be as colleges have become more and more competitive. We also recognize that the decision to invest in test preparation is an important and sometimes difficult one. Not sure which test your child should take? Not sure when the right time is to start preparing for the test? No problem. We'll be happy to talk with you and help you figure out the best plan for your child. You can either email us or give us a call at 813-434-0030. We are very good at what we do, and we look forward to helping your child get into their top-choice schools!

"A big thanks to Armstrong Tutoring for helping my daughter improve her SAT scores. This includes a 120 point increase in Reading, a 70 point increase in Math, and a 60 point increase in Writing in only 10 lessons. My daughter feels that both tutors helped her increase her scores, and she liked working with both of them. I recommend Armstrong Tutoring to other parents that want to help their child increase their SAT scores."
